Presto

Description: DMH orange and white
Born: April 9, 2026
Gender: Neutered male/micro-chipped

History:

Presto was born 10.44 p.m. to Rhapsody, a highly socialized stray taken in by PAW. We had hoped that ‘Rho’ was not pregnant, as we suspected she was unspayed. She was indeed pregnant. During the night of April 9th/10th, she gave birth to five kittens. Presto (the term for a musical movement that is ‘fast’) was first born – evidently in a hurry to come out.

In August of 2026, at four months of age, Presto developed a problem with his left eye. It was determined by the veterinarian to be caused by an injury – probably due to rough playing or some other action – and became serious. Glaucoma resulted, and, eventually, it was necessary to remove his eye in early September.

Personality:

This little guy’s name suits him: he’s quick and agile, and wants to get out and explore! He will fly from one new item to another, then come back, (maybe) or go on to something else (definitely). Presto was the first of the litter to be born, and he keeps that quality by being the first to run to anything novel. Presto was the first to encounter cats outside his family and while he abides by any feline warning that a cat may not be interested in meeting him, he isn’t frightened easily. He’ll just find something else that might be fun. But with adult cats who like him, he’ll return the feeling. He’s a climber and learned to scale his room’s scratching post before his brothers and sister. He’ll also climb a human’s leg…

As noted above in his History, Presto very recently lost his left eye to an injury, at only five months of age. (New pictures are coming.) He didn’t let that slow him down. Certainly, for the first day or so, he had to adjust to wearing a cone. This inhibited him a little – until he realised that he could play and run almost much with it as without. Activity had to be restricted while the eye-socket healed, but no one told Presto that. After a couple of days, he was back to being a kitten, even with the cone, despite his foster-guardian trying to restrain him until the vet gave the all-clear. And when the cone came off, the game was on!

While wearing the cone, Presto was kept away from his brothers, as they either found him a strange, cone-headed animal or rough-housed like normal: neither option was attractive for Presto’s recovery. Consequently, he quickly formed an even stronger attachment with his foster-guardian. This is sure to transfer to a new human upon adoption. Presto now sleeps on the bed at night, and is surprisingly still and quiet. Now and then, he may move about, but he settles down again.

Once the cone came off, Presto re-formed his friendship with his brothers, but also with a new kitten of a similar age, Coda, who will soon be available for adoption. We think Presto will rapidly accustom himself to new cats and people after an adoption.

Of a slightly lighter weight than his brothers, Presto is nonetheless in very good health. He will need to go to a home with another kitten or active pet.

His beautiful mum, Rhapsody, and energetic siblings, Largo, Andante and Allegro, are now available for adoption (see their respective profiles.)
