History:

Largo was born between two and four a.m. to Rhapsody, a highly socialized stray taken in by PAW. We had hoped that ‘Rho’ was not pregnant, as we suspected she was unspayed. She was indeed pregnant. During the night of April 9th/10th, she gave birth to five kittens. Largo (the term for a musical movement that is ‘slow’) was born last, after a bit of an interval between him and his next older sibling.

Personality:

Largo was the smallest of his litter, and though he looks slimmer than the others, he is almost tied for the heaviest. He’s a strong, hefty, healthy boy. He looks a little different than his brothers, too, less full of face and slimmer; his colouring is darker and tabby stripes stand out on his flanks. His fur has a different texture than the other kittens’.

Even as a newborn, he didn’t let his size hold him back. Once he’s challenged to a tussle, he goes all in and gives as as good as he gets. But it’s all in fun, and he gets along with his family. He’s met adult cats and, though wary, he’s not overly bothered by them.

He’s nicknamed Largo the Last, because he was the last of his litter to be born, but also because he hangs back a bit. When the siblings gather and one is missing, it’s Largo. He’s off doing his own thing. Maybe having been late out of the womb, he rather liked the peace and quiet. But that doesn’t mean he’s a loner; he may take advantage of the others being elsewhere in order to get an extra nap, or to explore on his own – but then he’ll be away to join them in their antics. He is definitely a typical kitten in that he likes company in his shenanigans.

All the ‘Tempos’, as the kittens are called, like people, and enjoy attention from humans. But Largo will seek it out a little more. He will sometimes find his foster-guardian and lie down near him, encouraging a chest rub. Being picked up and carried about is fine with him, too – so long as it comes with some head-rubs or other pets. Hear him purr then. He needs to be adopted into a home with another kitten or that already has an active pet.
